Men held for tease
Two middle-aged men were arrested after they allegedly passed lewd remarks at a 19-year-old woman who was sitting between them on the backseat of an autorickshaw near Phoolbagan on Saturday night. The woman protested and asked the auto driver to take the vehicle to the police station, where she lodged a complaint.
Fire
A fire broke out at Yatri Niwas, between the old and the new complexes at Howrah station, early on Sunday. Two tenders doused the flames within 20 minutes. Firemen said a short circuit possibly caused the fire on the ground floor of the lodge around 4.15am. No one was injured in the incident.
Body found
The decomposed body of a 25-year-old man, who had been missing for more than two weeks, was found floating in the Hooghly near Bagbazar ghat on Saturday night. Police said Arnab Bose had not returned to his Konnagar home after heading to Subhas Sarobar with his friends on February 12. His friends said they last saw him taking an autorickshaw to the Panihati ferryghat from Sodepur station.
Track cave-in
Train services in the Sealdah (main) section were hit for nearly an hour on Saturday night after the ground below track No. 1 of Dum Dum Junction caved in near Bediapara. A railway official said the ground had probably caved in because of the construction of a tunnel near the tracks to shift water pipes. Trains were diverted through other tracks. Repairs were completed around 11pm.
