Alex Wurz returns to Williams

Calcutta: Williams F1 on Monday welcomed their 2007 race driver Alex Wurz back to the team to act as a driver mentor. Alex will start his duties at this week’s Barcelona test before accompanying the team to races this season.

Alex said, “This is a great initiative by Williams and highlights just how hard the team is pushing to optimise their performance. I grew up in a family business of driver training and naturally I enjoy helping fellow athletes to operate at their best. I’m really looking forward to using my expertise to help Williams.”

4 test positive

New Delhi: Four athletes, including three women, tested positive for banned substance during the 72nd All India Inter University Weightlifting championship, held in Amritsar from January 29-31.

Dow issue

London: British Parliamentarian Barry Gardiner termed the process that led to the appointment of Dow Chemical Company as a sponsor for the wrap of the main 2012 Olympics stadium a “sham”. Gardiner alleged that the procurement process was ‘rigged’ in favour of the company.

Lisbon: Former Portugal great Eusebio is back in the hospital for the third time in two months. Doctors said that they decided to keep Eusebio in the hospital overnight because of his high blood pressure.

CFL resumes

Calcutta: The Calcutta Football League will resume on February 27 with the match between Kingfisher East Bengal and Tollygunge Agragami. East Bengal currently lead the table with 18 points from eight matches and are closely followed by Mohun Bagan, who are on 17 points from eight matches.

Jaipur: The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), on Tuesday, removed its secretary Sanjay Dixit and announced that fresh elections for the post would be held soon.
