Smriti, Nalini share lead

Calcutta: Local favourite Smriti Mehra and Nalini Singh shared the lead after the first day of the 11th leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Tour, at the Tollygunge Club, on Tuesday. They both carded two-over 72 in the first of the three rounds of the event.

Smriti, who holds the number one spot in the Order of Merit, recovered from two consecutive bogeys at the start by hitting two birdies on the sixth and 13th holes. She had two other bogeys on eighth and 14th holes.

Nalini, on the other hand, could not card any birdies. She had only two bogeys on fourth and 17th holes.

Smriti and Nalini were four shots clear of Shraddhanjali Singh, who carded 76. Ankita Tiwana and Vandana Aggarwal were tied for the fourth place, as they both carded 77. Vandana carded a birdie on the sixth.

Nalini, who is second in the Order of Merit, grabbed her third title of the season in the tenth leg of the tournament last week at the Royal Calcutta Golf Course.

Now, the 22-year-old girl stands to overtake leader Smriti on the Order of Merit if she wins the 11th leg.
