Sarah at Saturday Club and (below) in her Bunny days.

Australian DJ Sarah Robertson, a former Playboy Bunny, rocked the party at The Saturday Club on Friday. On an eight-city tour of India as part of vodka brand White Mischief’s Mischief Nights, starting with Calcutta, Sarah chatted with t2 about the Playboy life, Hugh Hefner and more.... We were all ‘ears’!

You were a successful model before becoming a Playboy Bunny. What made you decide to become a Bunny?

Even before I was a Bunny, I was already DJ-ing for six months. I had a residency. I had made a bit of a transition to music. It was something different. Being a Playboy Bunny and DJ is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

So you were first a Bunny and then a DJ at the Playboy Club?

I was a Playboy Bunny at Macau for seven months starting November 2010. All Playboy Bunnies have different jobs. You can be a host, a cocktail waitress, a cigar Bunny.... I was a DJ Bunny. I was the resident DJ at the Playboy Club. For the first month I was a host and had bottle duties, then half my hours were assigned to DJ-ing duty.

Describe the life of a Playboy Bunny…

It’s fantastic! There are a lot of photos. People stop you on the street and recognise you. And representing and being a part of the Playboy family — that will never go. Even after leaving the Playboy Club, I have been DJ-ing at the Playboy Mansion once every three months.

Did you meet Playboy founder Hugh Hefner?

I met him twice briefly at his house at Playboy Mansion parties. He is very old-fashioned, very much a gentleman, very, very polite, very charming.

From what we have read, the life of a Bunny seems physically very demanding…

We went through full training before becoming a Bunny. Learning things like the Bunny Perch, the Bunny Dip… when you are in the Bunny costume there are a different set of rules — how you stand, how you sit, how you serve a drink, even in photos.

And you can’t gain or lose more than a pound…?

It is the same everywhere in the modelling industry. And for the Bunny, it is really about the dress. Your Bunny suit is custom-made. Every single panel is tailor-fitted. You can’t get it readjusted, so it wouldn’t fit if you go upwards or downwards too much.

For most, Playboy is about sex, glamour, mischief…. How do people react when they learn that you were a Bunny?

I think they are very open-minded. It has not been detrimental in any form. Playboy is a very large brand… you have Playmates, Bunnies.... The Playboy Club is very old-fashioned, their ethics are somewhere around the ’60s.

Have you ever faced unwanted male attention?

No, never. But it is all about your personality.

Give three flirting tips for the boys and girls of Calcutta…

Boys: Be confident, dance and give compliments.

Girls: Give mischievous looks, be playful and be happy (laughs).

You must be meeting a lot of celebrities…

Yes, as a Bunny and even now as a DJ. DJs and producers are more celebs in my eyes than actors and actresses…. Last Sunday, when I was playing at the Grammys after-party in LA, there was Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, Hugh Hefner and others in the crowd. It was a huge buzz knowing they were there.

You best day and worst day as a Bunny?

Best day is the first day, when you are getting fitted, it seems like a dream! I had a gold one, a black one, a Chinese-patterned suit, a red one and a Santa costume… but the fur kept getting on the console (laughs).

The worst bit is the first Bunny shoes. There’s a lot of walking around. Bunnies can’t sit down.... it’s about keeping up the image. There is a thick Bunny Manual.

How do you like to dress — at home, when out with friends and when working?

At home you will see me in Playboy or Victoria’s Secret track pants. While DJ-ing, I try different things. I wear a lot of accessories, paint my nails in different colours, I wear a lot of leather. When with friends, I like to wear a dress, something pretty.

The hottest man you have met or would like to meet?

For me it’s just not about looks….

So, what turns you on in a man?

Charm, style, confidence….

And what turns you off?

Arrogance, lack of personality, no ability to laugh at yourself… no one too serious.

What kind of music do you like?

I am a house DJ and personally also I like all kinds of house music… progressive house, tech house…. However I play a variety of international music.

You all-time favourite track?

Bitter Sweet Symphony.
