Thiruvananthapuram, Feb. 15: Two fishermen were shot dead allegedly by security guards of an Italian Cargo liner off the Kerala coast today.
The incident occurred around 4.30pm at 14 nautical miles off the coast of Alappuzha. The two have been identified as Jelastin and Pinku, both from Tamil Nadu.
A defence spokesperson said the security guards of the Italian ship Enrica Lexi had fired at the boat carrying the fishermen suspecting them to be pirates.
