Patna, Feb. 14: Like the characters played by Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal in the 2008-hit Rock On!, five students of Delhi Public School (DPS) in the state capital have formed a music band to explore the beauty of rhythm and tunes and also showcase their talents.
Though they are yet to decide on a name for their band, the band members Akshat Agrawal, Madhur Madhav Mundra, Aniyush Juneja, Mukund Madhav Mundra and Sparsh Goel are confident about their success.
We will rock! said Akshat. While Akshat, Madhur and Aniyush are Class IX students, Mukund and Sparsh are in Class VIII.
The singers in the band are Akshat and Mukund. Akshat will also play the synthesizer, Madhur will try his hand Hawain and acoustic guitars, Aniyush will be on electric guitar, Mukund will be on the drums and Sparsh on tabla.
The band plans to compose five songs by the end of March this year after their final exams. Once they are done, they will try to carve a niche for themselves by broadcasting their songs on www.youtube.com.
Akshat said the focus of the band would be fusion with emphasis on Indian classical instruments such as tabla.
The budding musician told The Telegraph: We have observed that much of fusion music does not include much classical instrumentation. So, we have decided to do something new with fusion music. Sparsh is a very good tabla player, He has been participating in a number of events in our school.
Along with the tabla, the band also wants to use the harmonium in their fusion music.
They have already experimented with a few hit songs from Bollywood blockbusters. Asked how they got the idea to form a band, Aniyush said: Last month, Akshat, Sparsh and I had gone to P&M Mall to see a music event The Rock Fest. The theme of the event was fighting drugs. The event moved us and we decided to form a band of our own.
Aniyush discussed the idea with friend Madhur and younger brother Mukund. They, too, have joined the band. Sparsh said: The enthusiasm of the crowd watching the musical event at P & M Mall was such that we could not stop ourselves.
