CPM to wield axe

Calcutta, Feb. 14: The CPM has decided to get rid off “undesirable people” in the party, with leaders saying they will debate on how to “reshape’’ the organisation at the four-day state conference beginning tomorrow.

“Our party is no longer in power. So, the time has come to discuss how to rebuild and reshape our organisation… how to build a party by driving out undesirable people,’’ said CPM secretary Biman Bose today, when he was asked about the focus of the conference to be held at the party headquarters at Promode Dasgupta Bhavan.

“We must keep safe distance from party workers who are not liked by the public. In the past, they had caused enough harm to our organisation. Learning from experience, we want to keep such people out of the party,’’ Bose added.

CPM general secretary Prakash Karat and politburo members Sitaram Yechury, S.R. Pillai, Brinda Karat and K. Varadarajan are expected at the conference.

Bose also stressed that the current political scenario and the performance of the new government would also come under the scanner.
