One killed in bus mishap

Bhubaneswar: One person was killed when he fell from a city bus here on Thursday afternoon. The deceased Balakrushna Nayak, 45, slipped from the bus and got run over. He was rushed to the Capital Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Family members of the deceased demonstrated in front of the Dream Team Sahara office at Nayapalli with the dead body demanding compensation. The crowd dispersed following police intervention.

Land scam

Bhubaneswar: The crime branch has arrested two persons involved in a land scam at Mauza Shampur. The accused, both of who are government officials, had allegedly misused their power to sell government land. The duo have been forwarded to court and investigations are in progress, an official release stated.

Six arrested

Bhubaneswar:Berhampur police on Thursday arrested six dacoits and seized weapons, jewellery and money from them. The gang had been active in the Sadar area for the last two years and was involved in several cases of loot. All the six have been forwarded to court.

More stops

Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway has decided to provide additional stops of Haldia-Chennai-Haldia Weekly Super Fast Express in Bhubaneswar from February 18 towards Chennai and from February 24 towards Haldia on an experimental basis for six months.

Bear attack

Bhubaneswar: Five persons of Jaubahan village in Nuapada were critically injured after a bear attack. The incident took place on Thursday morning. The bear entered the village and attacked local residents who were out to do their daily chores. The injured have been rushed to the distinct hospital.

Goon caught

Bhubaneswar: Local residents of Bolagarh in Nayagarh caught a goon and beat him up severely when he along with his two associates were trying to collect extortion money from the local vendors. The goon Kailash Dora, 25, of Ranapur area, was later admitted to Capital Hospital here. His associates managed to flee from the spot.
