Students of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta did indeed seize the day over the weekend for their annual cultural fest Carpe Diem. Presented in association with t2, the fest saw students from colleges across the city and far beyond vie for supremacy in all things creative — from drama, dance, music and fashion shows to creative writing, word games, debates and quizzes.
Day One saw the Dramatics Cell of the institute perform The Devil Within, which tackled the issue of communal hatred, and a performance by Bandish Fusion. The madness was unleashed on Day Two soon after a performance by underprivileged children under the banner of Pehla Kadam, a group of volunteer-students from IIM Calcutta. As adrenaline junkies flocked to the adventure zone to try their hand at wall rappelling, paintball and more, quizzers tried their luck at the Mela and Sports Q&A and sports buffs headed for the basketball court.
The evening was reserved for the theatrical and the creative as teams competed in Nukkad, the street play, and took their turn on the ramp for Razzmatazz, the fashion show. Last up? The high-voltage rock band competition Armageddon.
Day Three saw more of the same as teams clashed in the dramatics competition All the Worlds a Stage and Radio Play. Those eyeing the Mr and Miss Carpe Diem crowns went the August Rush route while others tried their hand at salsa and face painting. The fest ended on a musical note with a trademark rocked-out performance by Indian Ocean.
