Deadline for school buildings

Hazaribagh deputy commissioner (DC) Manish Ranjan served an ultimatum to all government schools in the district on Tuesday, asking the authorities to complete construction of buildings, which has been pending for several years, by February 29.

The DC would launch a massive survey from March 1 to find out whether the schools were following his instruction failing which strict action will be taken against the principals and other officials concerned.

The order came after Ranjan discovered during a tour of rural areas that many schools were functioning with incomplete buildings. “No wonder, the attendance is so poor at the schools as there is no proper building to house the students. As a result, the teachers are left with no other option but to take classes under trees,” Ranjan said, adding that he had asked the principals to take up construction work on a war footing.

Vowing to implement the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in an effective manner, the DC made it clear that he would not tolerate any negligence in this regard. The respective block education extension officers as well as local gram shiksha samiti members will be taken to task if they fail to comply with the order, he warned.

Ranjan also asked the principals to contact him if the need arises.

Earlier in December last year, the DC had conducted another survey in government schools during which he discovered misuse of funds to the tune of Rs 25 crore. The survey revealed that the schools had hired more para-teachers than they required besides unnecessarily wasting money on different schemes for students.

On Tuesday, Ranjan chaired another meeting during which preparations for Hazaribagh Mahaotsav, scheduled to start from February 13, were reviewed.

Several decisions were taken related to security arrangements at different venues, including Canary Hill, Charwa Dam, Nagwa Aerodrome and Town Hall.
