20 shops gutted

Silchar, Feb. 6: Nearly 20 shops, selling stationary items, were gutted in a fire that broke out in Fatak Bazar in Silchar this morning. Eight fire tenders combatted for nearly five hours to douse the flames. Silchar fire station chief Haribrata Sinha said property worth Rs 6 crore was destroyed.

Arrested

Nagaon: Police on Monday arrested Tarani Mura for allegedly stabbing his elder brother Mahangu Mura to death on Sunday night at Singimari under Kachua police station in Nagaon district.

Accident

Nagaon: Six persons were injured when a bus collided with a truck on National Highway 37 at Sonaibari under Samuguri police station on Monday.

Shot at

Jorhat: Prasanta Bhuyan, 32, of Naojan area under Sarupathar police station of Golaghat district on Monday was shot at with a pistol by Ramjan Ali, 33, a paan shop owner over some financial dispute. Bhuyan has been admitted to Golaghat civil hospital and his condition is serious. Ali later surrendered to the police.
