Calcutta, Feb. 6: Calcutta-based firms have the capabilities to provide efficient back-end support to South Korean conglomerate Poscos proposed integrated steel plant in Odisha once the project materialises.
Kim Joong-Keun, ambassador of the Republic of Korea, said, Calcutta can provide back-end support when Posco happens. This $12-billion steel mill project in Odisha is the single largest FDI in India. He was speaking at an interactive session by the MCC Chamber of Commerce & Industry here today.
He met state industry minister Partha Chatterjee and deliberated on investment and cooperation domains, including IT/ITeS, steel, power, engineering, petrochemicals, shipbuilding, automobile and food processing.
Korean enterprises are mostly confined to New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. But a large number of companies are exploring opportunities beyond these cities. Bengal has what it takes to become an attractive investment destination. I have requested the industry minister here to lead a business delegation to Korea, he said.
