Woman beheaded in Keonjhar

Keonjhar, Feb. 4: A 45-year-old man today allegedly beheaded a woman of his village for practising sorcery at Saharapada village within the limits of Patana police station. He surrendered to police with the severed head.

The accused has been identified as Anand Majhi. He was forwarded to court and was later remanded in judicial custody after his bail application was rejected, the police said.

Anand is alleged to have severed the head of Rimili Majhi with a sharp-edged weapon. The victim has accused the deceased of bringing miseries to his family through witchcraft.

“My family members have always been suffering from various ailments. I felt that these all happened because of Rimili. So, I decided to kill her. I went to her house this morning and chopped her head off. Then I surrendered before the police with the severed head,” said Anand Majhi.

The body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital for autopsy.

“Anand has been arrested and charged with murder. He has also been produced in the court,” said Ashis Kumar Singh, superintendent of police, Keonjhar.
