GOING GREEN

q:Following your earlier suggestion, I have shortlisted the Stag and Lovato CNG/ LPG kits. While both come with RTO endorsements, the Stag costs Rs 35,900 and the Lovato costs Rs 49,000. My friends who have installed the Stag kit have given me good feedback and I have found that the Stag dealer is better equipped and more competent than the Lovato dealer in Erode, who hasn’t replied to my queries. Since it involves a lot of money, I seek your advice in helping me choose one.

S. Saravanan

a: The Stag CNG/ LPG kit is not popular in Mumbai (in fact, many dealers are unaware of the brand) as most dealers fit popular kits such as BRC, Lovato, Bedini, Star gas, Tartirini and so on. The preference for a particular kit differs from state to state. Kit manufacturers like Lovato and BRC have nationwide distributors who take care of their after-sales service. Lovato is a reputed CNG/ LPG kit manufacturing company and has an office in Gurgaon and it is surprising that the dealer in Erode has not yet responded.

PRICE WISE

q: I currently drive a Hyundai Accent CRDi and cover a distance of nearly 100km a day. I’m planning to buy a new car and have shortlisted the Hyundai Verna, Chevrolet Optra, Fiat Linea, Škoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento and the Toyota Etios. Which of these saloons will not burn a hole in my pocket?

Dr Meet Kamal

a: From the shortlisted cars, the Škoda Rapid, VW Vento and Hyundai Verna are the nicest to drive as they offer good performance, lots of comfort and features. However, since you want a car that is easy on your pocket, look no further than the Etios diesel. Toyota may have skimped a bit on features and the feel-good factor but there is no doubting the car’s long-term reliability and low cost of ownership.
