Cardiac surgeons from Europe will hold workshops and provide hands-on training in complex operations to junior city doctors.
The sessions will be part of the 58th annual meeting of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS), to be held in the city from February 8 to 12.
About 1,500 doctors are expected to participate in the meet, which will be held in Calcutta after 12 years.
One of the latest artificial hearts would also be showcased at the meet, as a part of a joint workshop between the IACTS and the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.
“More than 50 cardiac surgeons from Europe will attend the conference and provide training at wet laboratories,” said cardio-thoracic surgeon Kunal Sarkar, the organising secretary of the IACTS.
Wet laboratories are specially designed for conducting training in surgical techniques on animal models.
