Patna, Feb. 1: JD(U) national spokesman Shivanand Tiwari today expressed unhappiness with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh getting a clean chit from the Supreme Court for sitting on Subramanian Swamy’s letter for the prosecution against A. Raja in the 2G spectrum scam.
“There is no doubt that the Supreme Court has taken a good decision by attacking officials of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the law ministry for failing to apprise the PM about Raja in the scam. But along with the PMO, the Prime Minister is equally to blame,” Tiwari claimed.
“Being the Prime Minister, he should be aware of whatever is happening in the PMO. If Singh has any ethical and moral values, he must resign from the Prime Minister’s post,” he added.
The Supreme Court had on January 31 acknowledged that a Prime Minister could not be expected to look into “minute details” of every case placed before him. The court, however, launched a blistering attack on officials of the PMO and the law ministry for failing to apprise Manmohan Singh of the gravity of the charges against A. Raja when he was the telecom minister.
Tiwari also took a dig at the Congress for allegedly supporting corruption. He said: “Congress leaders are involved in various cases and they do not deserve any respect. What was Sanjay Gandhi’s contribution to the nation? And why is his samadhi next to Mahatma Gandhi’s at Raj Ghat in New Delhi? He was nothing more than a corrupt politician.”
Tiwari asked the Bihar government to change the name of Patna zoo, which is named after Sanjay Gandhi. “I would request the state government to name it after Dalit leader Jaglal Choudhary or Shri Krishna Singh, a former chief minister of Bihar,” he said.
“The Congress has named several roads in Delhi after former diplomat V.K. Krishna Menon who was a corrupt man,” the JD(U) leader added.
