Congress grouse to Mamata

Jan. 27: State Congress chief Pradip Bhattacharya today wrote to Mamata Banerjee expressing “deep concern” over the “continuous attacks” on party members by Trinamul.

“We are part of the coalition government in Bengal. So if our workers are continuously attacked by Trinamul activists, it goes against the coalition dharma. This is a matter of deep concern,” Bhattacharya said. The trigger for the missive was the alleged attack on Congress workers in South 24-Parganas’ Canning by Trinamul activists on January 25.

“The Congress is obsessed with its sole agenda of blaming us for everything,” Trinamul MP Subrata Bakshi said.

Civic discord

The Congress today withdrew support from the Trinamul-run Kharagpur municipal corporation, reducing the civic board to a minority.

“The board floated a tender of Rs 1.5 crore for construction of a supermarket without our consent,” said Rabi Shankar Pande, a Congress leader. The party, however, will give outside support to the board.
