Cops get Presidentís medal for excellence

Bhubaneswar, Jan 25: The Union home ministry today announced the list of police officers selected for Presidentís medal in different categories for 2011 and 2012.

For 2011, two senior police officers have been selected for the Presidentís police medal for distinguished service and 14 policemen have been chosen for police medal for meritorious service.

For 2012, three police officers have been selected for Presidentís police medal for distinguished service and 11 personnel for police medal for meritorious service.

The Presidentís award winners for the year 2011 include Sanjeev Marik, additional director general of police, headquarters, and Surendra Panwar, inspector-general of police, vigilance directorate.

The Presidentís award for 2012 would be conferred to Satyajit Mohanty, director, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy and inspector-general of police, training, M. Akhaya, inspector-general of police (personnel), state police headquarters, and Bijay Kumar Dash, additional superintendent of police, vigilance and in-charge superintendent of police, coordination, vigilance directorate.

Sanjeev Marik, a 1981 batch officer of the Indian Police Service, served the Odisha police for more than 30 years and is currently the additional director general of police positioned at State Police Headquarters, Cuttack.

Satyajit Mohanty, a 1988 batch Indian Police Service officer, has a career spanning more than 20 years. He is currently pursuing a postgraduate program in public policy and management in the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

M. Akhaya, a 1988 batch IPS officer, also has been selected for the highest civilian award for police officer. He had also been awarded presidents medal for police in meritorious service in 2004. Currently he is positioned IGP Personnel and placed at Cuttack.

Bijay Kumar Dash, an Odisha Police Service (OPS) cadre officer also bagged this prestigious medal for his distinguished service.

For 2011, 14 policemen have been selected for police medal for meritorious service.

Eleven policemen have been selected for the Presidentís medal for meritorious service.
