Health draft
New Delhi, Jan. 23 (PTI): The World Health Organisation has adopted Indias draft resolution on mental health and the need for a comprehensive response to it.
The resolution was moved by India on Friday, a government release said. The resolution recognises the importance of early identification of mental illness, care and recovery, the problems of stigma, poverty and homelessness and the need for community-based intervention.
Scuffle death
New Delhi (PTI): A railway police constable at New Delhi railway station was killed in a scuffle at 6am on Monday after he asked a catering manager to take his goods to a train through a proper path. An argument ensued resulting in the scuffle. Riyaz later died in hospital.
Cylinder theft
Ghaziabad (PTI): Three youths have allegedly stolen 300 gas cylinders from a truck at gunpoint in Ghaziabad. Truck driver Brahma Singh, ferrying the gas cylinders, had parked the vehicle near a petrol pump on Saturday night and dozed off. The trio broke open a truck window, tied up the driver at gun point and fled after transferring the cylinders to another vehicle.
TN fishermen
Rameswaram (PTI): Nine Indian fishermen who had gone missing and were taken into custody by the Sri Lankan navy after they strayed into the islands waters will be released on Monday. The Lankan navy said the fishermen had rowed in there by accident because of a snag in their boats.
Chicken row
Theni (PTI): Ten tonnes of chicken from poultry farms in Tamil Nadus Thene district have been sent back from Idukki district in Kerala following rumours that they suffered from diarrhoea. Some officials, however, said this had been done for political reasons.
Bus accident
Shajapur (PTI): Twenty-eight schoolchildren were injured when their bus overturned in a village at Madhya Pradeshs Shajapur district on Monday, police said.
