Bhubaneswar, Jan. 22: Family members of a 17-year-old girl alleged police inaction in tracing their daughter, who was allegedly abducted by their neighbour at Chandrasekharpur here on January 18.
The police, however, contradicted the family’s claim and said they had detained two persons in this connection. The girl’s family members alleged that their daughter, a Plus II student, was bundled into a car by two youths and a woman while she was going to take tuition at Chandrasekharpur’s BDA Colony on January 18. Though they had registered a complaint with Mahila police on January 19, they alleged that the police was not taking action to rescue their daughter.
The girl’s brother Sushant Pradhan said they searched at all possible places, but could not trace her. Later, Pradhan was told that a woman and two others were seen pushing his sister into a car.
On January 19, the family went to Chandrasekharpur police station to lodge a complaint, but they were sent to Mahila police station as the incident involved kidnapping of a girl. They lodged a formal complaint with Mahila police. But, the police were yet to give them a copy of the FIR, they said. The girl’s mother, Ullasi Pradhan, alleged that the woman, the prime accused in the case, was staying in their neighbourhood. “The woman, Mita Diggal, and her three brothers had a quarrel with my son. They had been threatening to kidnap my daughter. Once, they had also beaten up my son,” said Ullasi.
“The accused persons are roaming freely and threatening to kill my daughter if we approach the police. We had given the police their contact numbers,” she said.
“We are questioning them about the kidnap and trying to trace the whereabouts of the girl. We hope to rescue the girl and arrest the accused soon,” said a senior police officer.
