Munda gifts Gumla 175 projects on visit

- CM tells villagers to help with development

Gumla, Jan. 21: Chief minister Arjun Munda today inaugurated more than 175 projects worth Rs 51.82 crore and distributed assets to the tune of Rs 12.15 crore among villagers at a vikas mela in Gumla during his visit to the districts of South Chotanagpur.

The projects included construction of small bridges, culverts, primary health centres and anganwadi centres, while the villagers received assets under schemes like Lakshmi Ladli Yojna and Swarn Jayanti Grameen Swaraojgar Yojna, among others.

While addressing villagers, the chief minister said the state government was serious about improving the standard of living in villages.

“The district administration has to focus on areas like double cropping, small lift-irrigation and education. I am happy with the good work being carried out by the district administration here and villagers should cooperate with it,” said Munda.

Accompanied by home secretary J.B. Tubid and road construction secretary N.N. Sinha, Munda today visited Gumla and Simdega. At the Gumla district headquarters, the chief minister spoke to newsmen at length about the reason behind is visit to the districts.

“I want to get a first hand feel of what exactly is going on in different districts so that I can plan for them,” he said.

The chief minister also said the minister in charge of district planning committees in different districts should pay attention to genuine local needs while planning development schemes.

He said the district planning committees needed to pay attention to developing road networks in their respective regions.

“We have prepared a detailed project report with an estimate of Rs 85 crore for widening and strengthening Bishunpur-Gumla road — a stretch of 57km. This road is important for economic development of the region,” Munda said.
