Santipur pip Nabajyoti

Guwahati, Jan. 17: Santipur Athletic Club rode a devastating five-wicket haul by Railways paceman Ranjit Mali to crush Nabajyoti Club B by 185 runs in a pool C match of the Jugal Kishore Newatia 10th Bud Challenge Trophy cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here today.

Santipur won the toss and elected to bat first.

They rode half centuries by Rajib Kalita and Manoj Malo to pile up 244 for nine in 40 overs and Mali, later on, hauled five for 32 to help his side bowl out Nabajyoti Club for 59 in 16.4 overs.

Kalita topscored for Santipur with a steady 65 (3x4, 1x6) and Malo contributed a breezy 52 (5x4, 1x6). Neeraj Tiwari (47, 8x4) was another main scorer for the side while Abhinash Gogoi remained unbeaten on a run-a-ball 18 (2x4).

Vinod Sarma of Nabajyoti Club notched up four wickets for 45 runs and Sushanta Singha Roy and Appa Rao took two each for 38 and 43 respectively.

For Nabajyoti Club, Alokesh Das scored 14 (3x4) to be the only scorer in double figures.

Apart from Mali, Deepak Punia scalped two wickets for only one run. Mali was adjudged Man of the Match.

Tomorrow, City Cricket Club will play Ankurjyoti Club in a pool A match.

DPS win

Delhi Public School drubbed Fairyland High School by eight wickets in a match of the 1st White Feather inter-school under-14 cricket tournament held in memory of Anisul Haque (Red) at Iddgah field, Machkhowa here today.

Fairyland were bundled out for 52 in 16.5 overs.

DPS achieved the target in just 5.4 overs. Duke Das of DPS was named Man of the Match.
