Shillong, Jan. 16: The Indian Science Congress Association Young Scientist Award 2011-12 was conferred on a Shillong scholar by former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Jeremy Dkhar, a PhD in botany from the North Eastern Hill University (Nehu) received the award on January 4 during the 99th Indian Science Congress held at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar.
The award was introduced by the Indian Science Congress Association to encourage young Indian scientists in different disciplines of research.
Dkhar received the award for his paper — Waterlilies (Nymphaea) of India revisited: A Comprehensive Reappraisal of both Morphological and Molecular Data.
The other awardee was Rashmi Singh from Uttar Pradesh.
The two received the award in the plant sciences section.
Dkhar, a resident of Mawlai Iewrynghep, was one of the six candidates who were called to make a presentation on his paper at the institute in October last year.
