Calcutta, Jan. 13: Pakistan high commissioner Shahid Malik today said Indias non-tariff barriers and the lack of a proper visa policy between the countries were hampering bilateral trade.
Despite the most favoured nation status, exports from Pakistan have not picked up. The major reason for that is the obstacle to trade in the form of non-tariff barriers, he said.
Unless business interests from both countries interact, trade will not grow.
Malik said initiatives were being taken by both the counties to iron out the issues. A negative list of traded items is being prepared. It is likely to be cleared by February.
Malik said a visa policy was being prepared and was going to be signed by the two countries. The norms will allow multiple entry visas for Pakistani businessmen, but these will be restricted to 10 cities.
He said a business delegation led by commerce minister Anand Sharma would visit Islamabad soon.
