- A marriage mart, an evening of festive fun and a photography exhibition

What: The Calcutta Punjab Club in association with The Telegraph presents Awaz Punjab Di.

When: January 13, 8pm onwards.

Where: The Punjab Club, 21 Ballygunge Circular Road.

What to expect: A night of music, dance and masti at The Punjab Club’s Lodhi festival celebrations. To revel in the spirit of the night, members will come dressed in traditional garb like salwar kameez and kurtapyjama. A live bhangra performance will kick-start thefestivities and get members into balle balle groove. Playback singer Nidhi Kohli will take the stage to belt out popular Punjabi pop and bhangra numbers. Beat the chill at the bonfire on the lawns, where an agni puja will be held followed by prasad distribution. Later, members will feast on traditional Punjabi khana like Makki Ki Roti and Sarson Ka Saag as part of a lavish buffet spread. And there will be lucky draw prizes up for grabs as well.

Nouveaau is back. The lifestyle fair, in association with t2, will be held at The Oberoi Grand on Saturday between 11am and 8pm. The exhibition will bring to the city 70 stalls from across the country including some from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Amritsar. Fashion, jewellery, decor and a variety of knick-knacks will be part of the day-long shopping gala.

“Weddings are the focus of this particular Nouveaau. Since the marriage season is on, we thought of trying this out for the first time. It is a must-visit as the prices are affordable,” says Neena Kanoi who along with Shruti Goenka hosts Nouveaau.

Setting up shop will be labels like Ashta-Dhatu (jewellery), Bunkar Craft (fashion), Preeti Jhawar & Sejal Mehta (fashion), Red Oranges (fashion), Samskara (lifestyle), Saira Fashions (accessories), Toxic (fashion) and Vivek Kumar (fashion).

PICTURE PERFECT: Is it a painting or a photograph? Explore the world through travel enthusiast Sumantra Banerjee’s eyes and find out.

Capturing the wildness and vivacity of nature, Dream on Canvas is a collection of his high-resolution photographs covering Africa to Alaska, Australia to South America and, of course, India.

“Each canvas tells a tale and there are so many stories to tell,” says Banerjee, as he describes his Greenland experience — of travelling on a boat as he photographed icebergs in the light of the midnight sun; of a rare shot of a leopard at Kruger as it alighted from a tree after devouring its prey.

“I don’t depict a slice of life or do portraits. I prefer capturing the detailing that nature provides — the indigo-drenched hues of the macaws in Pantanal or the pink flight of the Caribbean Flamingos. Look how the ripples in the water or the shadows on the greens look like brushstrokes on canvas… that is what I capture,” reveals Banerjee, whose passion is landscape, wildlife and architectural photography.

Dream on Canvas will be held at Emami Gallery (off the Ruby Hospital roundabout) on January 13 (5pm-8pm), 14 and 15 (3pm-8pm).
