Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz interacts with Presidency University students on Thursday. Stiglitz illustrated the loopholes of the traditional neoclassical approach to economics in his address, ‘Globalisation and its Discontents’, at Presidency University’s Derozio Hall on Thursday. This was the fifth lecture named after Dipak Banerjee, the renowned professor of economics at the erstwhile Presidency College. Stiglitz focused on the shortcomings in the IMF-World Bank-led approach. Mentioning Amartya Sen, he pointed out how poverty persisted despite high growth rates in economies. In the evening, he addressed the 46th convocation of the Indian Statistical Institute. He talked about the impact of global warming and highlighted the threat of ground water depletion in India.
