A red light atop a car is nothing if not a licence to flout the rules of the road, as sports minister Madan Mitra proved on Monday night by throwing a fit when police stopped his beacon-fitted car at the Maniktala crossing for a routine check. The red-hot irony of Mitra seeing red over a beacon? His boss doesn’t use one atop her car. Metro called up Mitra and some of his ministerial colleagues on Wednesday to ask: If chief minister Mamata Banerjee can travel without a beacon, why can’t you?
