NISA pip Sena

Imphal, Jan. 9: North Imphal Sporting Association edged out Sena Athletic Organisation by 3-2 goals to sail into the final of the 5th N. Bhubon and 8th DSA Trophy State-Level Football Tournament, 2012 at Kakching in Thoubal district today.

NISA will meet Manipur Police Sports Club in the final tomorrow.

The policemen blanked Tiddim Road Unique Gamy Players Union in the first semi-final by 5-0 goals.

NISA got an early breakthrough, as Somrendro Singh scored in the second minute of play.

N. Jimmy Singh lobbed home another goal in the 15th minute. M. Bijen Singh of NISA let loose a grounder in the 42nd minute for a three-goal lead. Sena Athletic Organisation picked up pace in the second half with Samananda Singh netting his team’s first goal in the 50th minute. Robindro Singh fetched another goal but failed to save the game.

Veterans’ cricket: Uripok Cricket Club rode Ritikumar Singh’s four-wicket haul and 31-run knock to defeat Haobam Marak Napsa by 56 runs in the 9th Manipur Veteran Cricket Association 2011-12 at Luwangpokpa Cricket Ground. Haobam Marak Napsa won the toss and elected to field first in the 35-over match. Uripok Cricket Club batsman Shashikumar Singh cracked 50 runs off 75 balls while Ritikumar Singh gave solid support with 31 runs off 23 deliveries to post them to 179 runs, losing all its wickets.

In reply, Bony Singh’s defiant 46 runs off 36 balls went in vain, as Haobam Marak Napsa were bundled out for 122 runs in 29 overs.
