Around 160 passengers of a Thai Airways flight diverted to Calcutta got stranded on Friday because of a lack of a tow bar that could carry the Airbus 330-500 aircraft from the parking bay.
An airport official said a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok would fly in a suitable tow bar early on Saturday. “We don’t have a tow bar for an Airbus 330-500 as such aircraft hardly come here,” the official said. A tow bar is a vehicle that tugs an aircraft between the parking bay and the taxiway.
The stranded aircraft, carrying 159 passengers from Bangkok to Delhi, was diverted to Calcutta on Friday morning because of bad weather at the Delhi airport. It landed at Calcutta airport at 10.35am. The aircraft was to fly off around noon but could not in the absence of a proper tow bar. “The passengers were taken to city hotels,” said an official.
