The Jadavpur University authorities will select a nominee for a search committee to appoint the next vice-chancellor at the first meeting of the university’s reconstituted court on Wednesday.
The term of the present vice-chancellor, Pradip Narayan Ghosh, expires in April. An ordinance promulgated by the government in October to remove political interference in higher education had stipulated that vice-chancellors of the 14 state-aided universities in Bengal should be selected by a three-member search panel. Only Presidency University had been exempt.
“The newly constituted court will pick a nominee for the search committee to select the vice-chancellor,” Ghosh told Metro.
JU is the first state university to hold a meeting of its court after the reconstitution of the policy-making bodies.
