Ex-bishop in court
Ranchi: A former bishop from Simdega was produced before the court of the chief judicial magistrate on Sunday on charges of cheating one Jyoti Kujur of Rs 16 lakh. He was later released on a personal bond.

Prasad said 75-year-old Joseph Minz was wanted in a case registered at Lower Bazar police station in 2009 and the court had ordered his properties to be attached a few days ago. Minz was detained from his Simdega residence at Kantatoli under Lower Bazar police station on Saturday evening.
Smoke scare
Dhanbad: Seven patients of Jamadoba Central Hospital in Tata Steel’s Jharia division were shifted from the surgical to the main ward on Sunday after smoke started coming out from the ceiling fan’s regulator.
Boy missing
Bokaro: A resident of Sector III lodged a complaint in Bokaro city police station on Sunday after his 16-year-old son Ravi Anand, a student of Delhi Public School, went missing. According to the complaint, Ravi apparently left his house to attend an extra class in school at 8am on Saturday, but did not return till evening. The parents launched a search during which they learnt that the school was closed.
Body found
Bokaro: The body of a city-based gymnasium owner was found near Ambedkar Chowk in Sector IV on Sunday. Sanjay Kumar’s damaged two-wheeler was also found nearby. The body would be sent for post-mortem once the father of the deceased arrives from hometown Siwan, said police sources. The cause of the death has not been ascertained yet.
Science meet
Bokaro: Three students of Bokaro will participate in the National Children Science Congress scheduled in Jaipur from December 25 to 30. Aishwarya Stotriya of Class VIII, Maithili Academy, Sahil Agarwal of Class XI, Holy Cross Public School, and Ankit Kumar, a Class VIII student of ARS Public School are among the 16 who have been selected from Jharkhand for the national meet.

Ranchi: Members of Youth Power of India sat on a daylong dharna at Albert Ekka Chowk on Sunday to lend their support to Anna Hazare’s fast at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
Elderly injured
Jamshedpur: A 60-year-old passenger travelling on the roof of a truck sustained multiple injuries after he fell off the speeding vehicle on National Highway-33 at Pardih on Sunday.
he incident took place when the vehicle was crossing a dilapidated stretch of the highway. S.K. Manjhi was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital.
Tisco trouble
Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and local police on Sunday forcibly stopped work at an under-construction building belonging to Tisco Friends’ Co-operative Credit Society, following accusations of malpractice by some of its members. Led by Murad Ali, the protestors in complaints lodged with both the police as well as JNAC, alleged that the incumbent president and secretary of the society were trying to sell space on society premises through unfair means.
SCCI polls
Jamshedpur: The biennial election of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) will take place on December 20. The filing of nominations began on Saturday and will continue till December 14. Candidates can withdraw their nomination on December 15 while scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on December 16 and 17.
JAP elections
Jamshedpur: Members of Jharkhand Armed Police-VI voted to elect a new executive body for a two-year term. In all, nine booths were set up for 1,048 JAP personnel posted in different places across the state, including Giridih, Hazaribagh, Netrahat, Lohardaga, Latehar, Bokaro, Sonari and Baridih. Votes were polled for the posts of president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, joint secretary and executive members. The results will be declared on Monday.
