Oh boy! Now you dont have to wait for your next trip to Mumbai or Bangalore to pack doughnuts for family and friends back home. D-Oh! Boy (think doughnuts + oh boy!) which opened doors on Friday at 25/1 Shakespeare Sarani (before the turning into Hungerford Street), stocks 20 varieties of eggless doughnuts and more.
Theres no place in Calcutta that serves just doughnuts. So we decided to open a place where students and office-goers can grab a doughnut and coffee on their way to college or work, said husband-wife duo Virendra and Neha Kothari.
At the new sweet stop, bite into a sticky Cinnapple, a creamy Black Forest or give into 3D — Deep Dark Desire — with a gooey truffle centre, chocolate glaze and a sprinkle of choco-chips. Theres more — Strawberry Frost, 101 Dalmations (dark and white chocolate), Mushy Mango and Fruity Lava (jam-based).
Doughnuts are made for the greedy. When someone bites into one, the filling is meant to ooze out and drip, smiled consultant chef Shantanu Roy.
With schools and colleges down the road, the doughnut dens focus is GenY. Which is why our prices are affordable, says Roy, pointing to the menu where all the treats are priced between Rs 15 (for the basic Sugar Ring) and Rs 45 (for Hazelnut Whirlpool).
Not a dougnut fan? Try the D-Oh! Wiches (think sandwiches), which are shaped like bagels and filled with your choice of vegetarian spread (mayonnaise, garlic or mint butter), stuffing (like barbecued paneer with onion rings and lettuce) and cheese.
Look around and spot an open kitchen with an automatic doughnut-fryer, which can churn out 600-800 pieces an hour, a figure the young owners hope will be fast-flying off the counter.
The main idea behind the open kitchen is a multi-sensory experience. People can see and smell their doughnuts being made, said Neha.
It may have a tagline that goes Sinfully Yours but this is one sin you wont be guilty of committing!
