Villager murders wife & son

Berhampur, Dec. 4: A man killed his wife and son at Barida village in Ganjam district last night. Kalu Charan Sahu, 32, the murderer had committed the crime suspecting that his wife, Jyotsnarani, 28, had cheated on him.

However, Sahu’s in-laws alleged that Jyotsnarani was killed for dowry.

Sahu murdered his wife and three-year-old son Pabitra with sharp weapons when both were asleep. However, the man did not harm his five-year-old daughter Santoshini.

Kalu, who left the house immediately after the crime, surrendered before police in the wee hours today.

“We have arrested Kalu and are investigating the case. Family problems may be the reason behind the crime. Kalu Charan Sahu and Jyotsnarani married in 2001,” said inspector in-charge of Kabisurya Nagar police station.

The police registered a case after Jyotsnarani’s brother Narayan Sahu lodged a complaint against Sahu. “We have seized the bodies and sent them to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem,” said the inspector.

“Jyotsnarani had illicit relations with others and Pabitra is not my son. But, Santoshini is my daughter and that’s why I spared her,” said Sahu.
