PSO gun goes off

Jorhat, Nov. 21: The carbine of the personal security officer of BSNL general manager M. Muni Shekhar here went off accidentally and three shots were fired in succession inside the GM’s car this evening. The bullets pierced and passed through the car. The security officer was inside the car when the carbine went off.

AJYCP demand

Jorhat: The AJYCP has reiterated its demand for nationalisation of the Tocklai Experimental Station as assured byUnion commerce and industries minister Anand Sharma in May 2010.

Namaz row

Sivasagar: Upper Assam Muslim Kalyan Parishad, a Sivasagar-based organisation, has opposed Assam governor J.B. Patniak’s initiative to allow women to offer namaz in mosques of the state. The office-bearers of the organisation on Monday asked the governor to keep away from interfering in Muslim religious practices.

Field Day

Kokrajhar: A day-long Field Day programme was organised by Kendra Krishi Vigyan, Gossaigaon at Debargaon in Kokrajhar to benefit the farmers. Around 150 farmers of Kokrajhar district participated in the programme.

Suicide

Dhubri: Monoj Das, 21, of Taloa village under Tamarhat police station of Dhubri district reportedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree near his residence on Sunday night night.
