Seeds cruise on Day One

Guwahati, Nov. 14: The seeds had it easy on Day One of the India Club-AITA championship series tennis tournament at the India Club courts here today.

Top seed Deepak Vishvakarma (Uttar Pradesh) had a cakewalk against Debasish Medhi (Assam) 6-0, 6-1 while third seed Siddharth Reddy (Tamil Nadu) blanked local lad Ankeet Kashyap 6-0, 6-0.

Fourth seed K. Whourie (Haryana) got the better of Archis Borthakur (Assam) 6-1, 6-1. In another first round match, fifth seed Madhurjya Dutta (Assam) outplayed statemate Jugal Boruah 6-1, 6-2, sixth seed Abhinansu Borthakur (Assam) defeated Sahidul Islam (Assam) 6-0,6-1, while seventh seed Arunansu Borthakur (Assam) drubbed Raunak Bora (Assam) 6-0, 6-1.

In other matches, eighth seed Siddhant Deka (Assam) outclassed Shuaib Hussain (Assam); S. Salim (Jharkhand) beat Nandan Bhatta (Assam); Jagdeep Deol (Assam) defeated G. Lahon (Assam); Nabarun Gogoi (Assam) beat Kritartha Hazarika (Assam); Bijay Mohanty (Assam) outplayed Tanfiz Hussain (Assam); Aditya Phookan (Assam) beat Aman B. Das (Assam); Sushanta Mohanty (Haryana) beat Sahidul Islam (A); Rahul Mohanty (Assam) beat Bishal Mohanty (Assam) while Ronit Bora (Assam) beat Santosh Acharya (Assam).
