Mausam warns Mamata

Malda, Nov. 13: Malda North MP Mausam Noor today warned Mamata Banerjee that if she did not rid the Trinamul Congress of “anti-socials”, it would spell doom for the party.

The state Youth Congress president was addressing a public meeting at LIC More to protest yesterday’s incident in which Baisnabnagar MLA Isha Khan Chowdhury came under attack.

She alleged that those who had masterminded the incident were once with the CPM and had switched over to Trinamul.

“If people can attack an MLA, how can the administration guarantee the security of common people?” Mausam, Isha’s cousin, said.

Police said Isha was caught in a crossfire between two groups of cattle smugglers yesterday who lobbed bombs and fired at each other. The MLA was unhurt and escorted by the police.

Mausam said the Youth Congress would organise a silent rally in Calcutta on November 18 to protest the attack on Congress workers and sympathisers in the state. “It is unfortunate that the norms to run a coalition government are being violated by such attacks,” said the MP.

Mothabari MLA Sabina Yasmin accused the police of “playing a partisan role and taking no action against Trinamul-backed people.”She said the Congress supporters would gherao the district superintendent of police tomorrow protest the “total lawlessness” in the area.

Today the Congress took out rallies in 15 blocks of the district to protest yesterday’s alleged attack on Isha.

While Isha’s father and MP Abu Hashem Khan Chowdhury had claimed that CPM supporters who had switched over to Trinamul had “masterminded” the attack, the MLA had accused the CPM for the incident.

Abu Hashem and Isha, however, did not take part in the protest rallies today.
