Wedding firing: 3 arrested

Siliguri, Nov. 7: Three persons were arrested today by NJP police in connection with the firing in Sahid Colony last night.

The police said Nitai Barman, Palash Barman and Rajesh Bera, all residents of Raiganj, had been arrested for opening fire at a wedding venue. One person died and another was injured in the firing. The firearm used in the attack and four rounds of live cartridges were seized from the arrested men. Jaidip Nandi, the councillor of ward 35, said the injured Mantu Barman was under treatment at a nursing home on Sevoke Road.


Bee attack

Malda: A three-year-old girl of Mahakalbona village near Gajole died when she was attacked by a swarm of bees on Sunday. Police said Anwara Khatoon had been admitted to Malda district hospital in a critical condition. She died on Monday morning.


Godown fire

Malda: Two godowns packed with cotton were destroyed in a fire at Moulpur in Old Malda on Sunday night. The owner of the stockyard, Chaitanya Pal, said the estimated loss from the fire was around Rs 15 lakh. Three fire engines from Malda doused the flames in a four-hour operation.


Jaigaon body

Jaigaon: The Jaigaon Development Authority was reconstituted on Monday with Trinamul Congress leader Mihir Goswami as the chairperson of the nine-member committee. The district magistrate and the additional district magistrates of Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar are members of the committee. Alipurduar subdivisional officer and the principal secretary of urban development department are members of the panel too.


Arms arrest

Malda: Two persons with arms were arrested from Bairhat village on Sunday. Harishchandrapur police seized two firearms and live cartridges from Manoj Thakur and Biswajit Das, both residents of Sahebganj in Jharkhand. The two-wheeler they were riding has also been seized.
