Double crowns for Prasad

Guwahati, Nov. 4: Delhi boy Vishu Prasad annexed double crowns in the NRL Asian Juniors (under-14) Tennis Championship that concluded at the Jorhat Tennis Club courts in Jorhat today.

Prasad posted an easy 6-4, 6-2 victory against Rajasthan opponent Udayan Bhakar for the singles title and partnered another Delhi boy, Ishaque Iqbal, to get the better of Assam boys Vishal Vivek Saikia and Manas Pratim Kuli 6-3, 6-3 for the doubles crown.

Second seeded Prasad had defeated third seed Jorhat boy Parikshit Somani 6-1, 6-2, while fourth seed Bhakar had toppled Maharashtra’s Aryan Goveas 7-6, 6-2 in the semis yesterday.

Andhra girl Sruta Kirti Gunaganti lifted the girls’ singles crown with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Tamil Nadu opponent Abinikka R. in the final today. Gunaganti had defeated Delhi girl Jenifer Luikham 6-3, 6-1 and Abinikka had overcome Madhya Pradesh’s Isha Budwal 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-finals yesterday.

Abinikka, however, won the girls’ doubles title partnering Saranya Nagpal of Andhra Pradesh to beat Assam girls Priyana Kalita and Abha Majinder Baruah 1-6, 6-1, 10-4.
