Core growth slips

New Delhi, Oct. 31: Growth in eight key infrastructure sectors slowed down to 2.3 per cent in September from 3.3 per cent a year ago. The numbers were discouraging compared with August when the infrastructure sectors grew 3.7 per cent. Coal, natural gas and fertiliser showed a decline in output, raising concerns for industry and the government.

Usha Martin

Calcutta, Oct. 31: Usha Martin has suffered a loss of Rs 71.8 crore during the second quarter ended September against a profit of Rs 32.5 crore in the same period last fiscal as excessive rain played a dampener.

Bata net

New Delhi, Oct. 31: Footwear and accessories maker Bata India today posted a 46.81 per cent increase in net profit for the September quarter at Rs 30.42 crore compared with Rs 20.72 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

BPCL loss

New Delhi, Oct. 31: State-owned Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) has reported a net loss of Rs 3,229 crore for the September quarter after the government failed to offer any compensation for the losses it suffered on fuel sales.

CBEC chief

New Delhi, Oct. 31: S.K. Goel, a 1975 cadre officer of the Indian Revenue Service, today took over as the chairman of the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC).
