Calcutta: Mohammedan Sporting played out a goalless draw against a wayward Bhowanipore in a Calcutta Football League Premier Division match at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday.
Mohammedan Sporting went into the match as the outright favourites. But their display proved otherwise. There was no understanding between their strikers and the midfielders.
Forwards Stanley and Suraj Mondal looked aimless in the first half and their most promising player, Han Wook of Korea, had an ordinary outing.
In the second half, Mohammedan Sporting tried to make some forays. But their attacks were nullified by Douglas da Silva, who put in an inspired performance in the Bhowanipore defence.
The two other foreigners, forwards Marcos and Henry, also had a good game. But most of their strikes were saved by custodian Sukdev Ghosh, who was the only player who did justice to Mohammedan Sportings reputation.
The foreigners in Bhowanipore are experienced. They know how to excel in these circumstances... So I am happy that our boys performance, said Mohammedan Sporting coach Alok Mukherjee.
The match also brought into limelight the unprofessional attitude of the IFA as they failed to arrange for a single ball boy.
In other matches of the day, Aryan Club thrashed Kalighat MS 3-0 at the Khardah Stadium. Pankaj, Ugo and Subho scored for the winners. Mithun scored the winners in West Bengal Polices 1-0 win over Railway FC at the Barasat Stadium, while BNR drew 1-1 against George Telegraph.
