Schengen visa rule

London, Oct. 11 (PTI): The European Union today launched a Visa Information System for Indians and other non-EU citizens applying for a Schengen visa to help prevent fraud, official sources said.

The EU said the new system will help process applications faster because of the use of biometrics (fingerprints and digital facial image).

UK Sikh judge

London (PTI): Leading lawyer Rabinder Singh, who successfully appeared on behalf of Indian doctors in an immigration case in 2007, has been sworn in as the first Sikh judge of a high court under the Royal Courts of Justice.

Bharatpur

New Delhi (PTI): The CBI has registered a case to probe the Bharatpur violence in which 10 persons were killed in clashes between two communities over land last month. An inquiry into the matter was referred to the CBI by the Ashok Gehlot government.

Monsoon

New Delhi (PTI): The IMD has perhaps for the first time admitted that most of its forecasts for this year’s monsoon “were not very accurate”. It said underestimation was because of increased rainfall in the second half of the season.

Resort killing

Munnar (PTI): A woman was allegedly murdered by her husband at a resort in Kerala’s Munnar. Mahesh Kumar strangled Shamila after inflicting wounds all over her body, police said.
