Assam tally 6 gold, 3 silver

Guwahati, Sept. 29: State shuttlers Hirok Jyoti Neog and Mridusmita Phukan lifted the men and women’s singles titles in the ONGC North East Zone Inter-state Badminton Championship in Agartala from September 23 to 26. Assam shuttlers won six gold and three silvers in the meet.

Neog defeated Nagaland’s Joseph Sumi while Phukan beat Lalduhauali of Mizoram. Phukan and Moumita Talukdar won the doubles crown, defeating Nagaland’s Deepika and Chubanungla in the junior girls’ doubles. Vishal Garg and Krishanu Dohutia of Assam won the junior boys’ doubles title, defeating Akshay and Kalun of Arunachal Pradesh. Laa Talar of Arunachal Pradesh and Prangana Baruah of Assam won the junior boys’ and girls’ singles crowns, beating Rana Kumar Baruah and Barnali Konwar of Assam. Nagaland pair Joseph Sumi and Raju won the men’s doubles crown, defeating Anirban Chetia and Nikhilesh Sarma of Assam. Assam tandem Bibari Basumatary and Kristi Das won the women’s doubles title.
