The owner of a guest house at Dover Terrace in south Calcutta was arrested on Thursday for allegedly kidnapping three persons.
Police said Himadri Mukherjee had kidnapped the family members of Joydeb Halder for refusing to vacate his 25-cottah plot in Kestopur. Joydeb had been looking after the plot for 15 years.
“The guest house owner and two of his employees have been arrested,” said the SDPO of Barasat, Tarun Halder.
Police said Mukherjee, some months back, had asked Joydeb to move out after he tried to let out the plot. But Joydeb refused to do so.
On Wednesday, Mukherjee said he would take Joydeb’s wife, mother and daughter Puja shopping but kept them confined to his guest house. He also allegedly had his men beat up Joydeb. Following a complaint by Joydeb, cops rescued the trio on Thursday evening.
