Bail for former rebel

Jalpaiguri, Sept. 28: Calcutta High Court today granted bail to Tom Adhikary alias Joydeb Roy, a former KLO militant.

“A bail petition submitted in court was heard today and the court has approved the bail plea. We are expecting the necessary papers to reach the district and sessions court in Jalpaiguri by Saturday after which he would be released,” said Abhijit Sarkar, Tom’s lawyer. Tom has been lodged in Jalpaiguri Central Jail for the past eight years after he was arrested by the Royal Bhutan Army in December 2003. His name featured on the list of 52 political prisoners, which a committee appointed by the Mamata Banerjee government had drawn up for release.

Siliguri: Members of the Lions Club of Siliguri Terai handed over clothes to 501 poor girls at a programme here on Wednesday. Kamal Agarwal, the president of the club, said the members also had lunch with the beneficiaries after the programme.
