Patna, Sept. 28: BN College is set to receive the College with Potential for Excellence status from the University Grants Commission, under which the institution will get Rs 1 crore for infrastructure development and academic growth.

The institution is the second constituent college of Patna University after Magadh Mahila College to get the status this year.

M.N. Sinha, a faculty member at BN College, said: “Ours is the second college after Magadh Mahila College to get the status this year under the 11th Five-Year Plan. The status is for four years and the money will be utilised for developing the college’s infrastructure.”

Sinha added that a meeting has been scheduled on September 30 in New Delhi between college authorities and UGC officials. BN College principal K.K. Maltiyar and Sinha will reach Delhi for the meeting, where Maltiyar will present budget proposal and schemes to utilise the Rs 1 crore.

According to the UGC guidelines, under the status three to four departments would be developed as star departments. The institution will get a sum of Rs 1 crore, including non-recurring and recurring grants, from UGC to upgrade infrastructure and improve teaching and research activities.

The projects for the star departments would include development and upgrade of laboratory, equipment, books and journals, computers and renovation. However, according to the UGC guidelines, no construction work can be carried out with the funds.
