Guwahati, Sept. 24: Litterateur Mamoni Raisom Goswami was put on life support system at the ICU of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital this evening.
Goswami was shifted to the ICU from her cabin a few days ago for observation and some routine medical investigations. The hospital superintendent, Ramen Talukdar, told The Telegraph that Goswami has been put on ventilator after her condition suddenly turned more critical today.
He said her condition is now “very critical”.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Goswami and instructed doctors to ensure the best treatment. He said Goswami’s condition is very critical and doctors are constantly monitoring her.
Sources said the state government might request a team of specialists from the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences to come to GMCH to advise the doctors.The litterateur was admitted to GMCH on February 12 with severe respiratory distress.
Since then the Jnanpith awardee has suffering from various infections. She has been unconscious for the last seven months.
She was airlifted to Medanta — The Medicity, the country’s largest multi-superspeciality institute in Gurgaon on February 19 for treatment. But her condition did not improve. Goswami returned to the state last month and was admitted to GMCH.
