Thai studies

Jorhat, Sept. 21: The Royal Thai embassy in India has proposed to establish a Thai studies corner at the Institute of Tai Studies and Research at Moranhat in Sivasagar district. A three-member delegation will visit the institute on Sunday and donate books, CDs and DVDs.

Suspended

Jorhat: The regional office of the Central Bank of India suspended the chief cashier of its Gar Ali branch, Rajib Gogoi, on Wednesday on charges of fraudulently withdrawing money from the accounts of over 10 customers.

Bonus

Jorhat: About 200 labourers of Cinnamara tea estate demonstrated on Wednesday to demand 20 per cent Puja bonus instead of the 17 per cent offered.

Jorhat: Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Bagchung, took out a procession on Wednesday to celebrate its silver jubilee.

Jorhat: Jorhat deputy commissioner R.C. Jain held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss giving Kisan credit cards to farmers.

Cong stand

Tezpur: The ruling Congress on Wednesday said it was taking all steps for development of the North Bank districts at its regional conclave held here. Assam PCC general secretary Haren Das said the party will be recharged by December for the panchayat polls to be held in 2013.
