New Dimapur train to Guwahati
Guwahati: Union railway minister Dinesh Trivedi (in UB Photos picture on right) on Sunday announced the introduction of a train from November 15 between Dimapur and Guwahati which would be christened Nagaland Express. He said development of the railway infrastructure in Nagaland and other northeastern states is his priority and his visit is aimed solely at resolving all the issues related to rapid development of the region.
Brotherhood
Guwahati: Universal Brotherhood Day was celebrated at Vivekananda Kendra at Uzan Bazar on Sunday evening. The programme, which started around 5.30pm, included recitation of Swami Vivekananda’s speech.
Free check-up
Guwahati: The Lions Club, Guwahati, in association with Bishnu Jyoti Sangha, an NGO, on Sunday organised a free ENT check-up camp at Paltan Bazar. At least 55 patients attended the camp. Dr Bimal Agarwal conducted a free check up of the patients.
Flautist dies
Guwahati: Karuna Shankar Thakuria, an exponent of Indian classical music and noted flautist, died at International Hospital on Sunday. He was 71.
College debate
Guwahati: Students of 21 colleges from across the state participated in a debate held at Gauhati Commerce College on Sunday. The competition was part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the college.
