A high court division bench on Tuesday upheld a trial benchís ruling endorsing the All India Council for Technical Educationís decision to revoke the approval of Kingston Engineering College in Barasat.
The division bench of Justice A.K. Talukdar and Justice Provat De, however, stayed the operation of the councilís order for a month and asked the college to shift all its 263 students to other institutions.
It was alleged that the private college, which had started functioning in 2008 with the councilís approval, had come up on a disputed plot.
Following a CBI probe in 2010 which concluded that the allegation was true, the council decided to cancel the approval of the college.
The college authorities challenged the councilís order in the high court.
A week ago, Justice Tapen Sen had upheld the councilís decision.
The college then moved an appeal before the division bench, which upheld the trial benchís order on Tuesday.
