Calcutta shooting

Calcutta, Aug. 25: A middle-aged man was shot dead outside a market near north Calcutta’s Beadon Street late tonight.

Eyewitnesses said three men fired at the unidentified man, who appeared to be in his mid-forties, from close range around 10.45pm before escaping on a motorcycle.

He was taken to Calcutta Medical College Hospital by a police patrol team but was declared dead on arrival.

The police said a Midnapore-Howrah railway ticket was found in the man’s pocket, leading them to suspect that he was not a Calcutta resident.

The police said the murder could be the fallout of a business rivalry.
